Decorating a home can be tricky; especially if you’re not a fan of furniture sets. While home furnishing retailers thrive on these pre-made rooms, these unimaginative collections don’t create much visual interest at home. By mastering the art of mixing and matching wood furniture, you can create a one-of-a-kind abode. Best of all, you might save some money while you’re at it too.
1 – Start with what you like
Spend a day trolling all the furniture stores you can find. Don’t limit yourself to physical showrooms; web-based furniture stores have a lot to offer too. Besides, you can frequently save a bundle if you buy wood furniture online. As you look, take note of which pieces you’re drawn to. Make sure to keep a list of your absolute favourite pieces.
2 – Have at least one piece with texture
In every room, at least one wood piece should have texture. Frequently, a trunk serves this purpose well. It’s ok to have a number of bold pieces in a room, but please keep it simple in a small space. Otherwise, the room will feel overwhelmed. Additionally, please note that daring dining sets in an open floor plan will dominate the space.
3 – Don’t be afraid to mix and match colours
There’s no rule saying that you can’t have birch and mahogany furniture in the same room. Mixing two different woods can create a dramatic effect. However, please refrain from mixing three different woods or more; the space will end up looking like a dorm room. Instead, stick to two basic colours.
4 – Take pictures of your current furniture with you
Shopping for a new dresser, but not quite sure what you want? Then snap a picture of the other furniture in the room. That way, you can compare what you find with what you already have. If you’re going to buy online, make sure to double check measurements and close-up photos of the piece.
5 – Always compare prices
If you find a piece in-store that you’ve fallen in love with, be sure to compare the price with online furniture stores first. You’d be shocked how often online retailers can ship the item right to you for quite a bit less money.
Don’t feel like your home must be filled with furniture sets purchased from your local home décor store. Break out of that boring mold by putting together your own sets. Besides being quite a bit of fun, this can even save you a lot of money. In the end, you’ll have a room that takes your breath away.
